I had an unfortunate experience at a store recently. It is not the first time I have had this type of experience. As my Firm sends out thousands of greeting cards during the winter holidays, I decided to buy extra cards in case we ran out at a chain store in October. When we decided to send out a printed post card instead of cards this year, I tried to return the 23 boxes of cards I had bought. First I tried to return them the next month at the store where I bought them in southern New Jersey, but it was closed for a time after it was flooded out by Superstorm Sandy. When I tried to return them at another store in New Jersey the same day I was told that I couldn’t receive a cash refund, just an even exchange. I was shown the back of my receipt which stated that “[w]e will gladly exchange any unopened item with original receipt. I’ve lost count of how many times people have called the office after spending considerable time, often years, writing to their elected government representatives, requesting help with or seeking advice for a legal problem. They also usually write to many people, like their council-people, mayor, state representatives or senators, governor, federal representatives and senators, United States cabinet officials, and the President. By the time they talk with or meet with a lawyer, they have missed their deadlines to either file for claims with agencies, or pursue their matters in court. In the United States there is a separation of powers between the executive and judicial branches, and spending time writing to the above people is often a fruitless exercise, but even more so, it does not preserve one’s legal remedies... Full Story

Return on Investment (ROI) is often associated in financial reporting as a ratio of the amount of return over the amount invested. It is also an indicator when looking at ROI and ROE in terms of evaluating leverage of a company among other valuable information. In terms of projecting a possible outcome on a proposed project, calculating ROI is a critical step in determining the viability of the execution of that project... Full Story
